Natchitoches Jazz and R&B Festival: Your May 2026 Guide

If April is Natchitoches’ best-kept secret, May is its vibrant heartbeat! 💓 As the jasmine blossoms fade, the air fills with something new: the soulful sound of brass 🎷, the thunderous beat of drums 🥁, and the melodic energy of the Natchitoches Jazz and R&B Festival.

May 2026 is a month of grand celebration—from the milestone graduations at NSU 🎓 to the legendary music that brings our historic riverbank to life 🎶. Grab your sunglasses and your dancing shoes 💃, because the "Soul of the South" is calling!

🥁 More Than Just Jazz: May’s Early Rhythms

The music starts long before the main festival! We kick off the month with tropical vibes at the NSU Steel Band Concert (May 1) and the powerful Drums Along the River (May 2). These free riverfront performances are the perfect excuse for a picnic on the grass while the sun sets over the Cane River.

🏺 Treasures and Traditions

For those who prefer the thrill of the hunt, Sale on the Trail (May 1–2) offers 111 miles of yard sales and antique markets along the historic El Camino Real. It’s the perfect way to spend a Saturday morning before heading back to the downtown shops for the Shop St. Denis Monthly Market on May 9.

🎷 The Main Event: 29th Annual Natchitoches Jazz and R&B Festival

The centerpiece of the season is undoubtedly the Natchitoches Jazz and R&B Festival (May 15–16). This year, the riverfront stage will host an incredible multi-genre lineup, featuring country superstars Neal McCoy and Joe Nichols, and R&B legends like Peter Rivera (formerly of Rare Earth).

With three stages stretching along the Cane River, the festival offers a rhythm for every traveler. Don't miss the Friday Night "Tribute to the Legends"—it’s a family-friendly sing-along on the riverbank that sets the perfect tone for the weekend! 🎸🌟

🎓 Milestone Moments

May is also a time of deep pride for our community. We are honored to host families for the NSU Graduation and Golden Jubilee (May 12–14). Celebrating the Class of 2026 alongside the "Golden" Class of 1976 reminds us why our town’s history is so special.
