September and October offer several opportunities to build a getaway around a favorite event—or choose a weekend when several experiences are happening at once. September begins with a lively combination of music and unexpected experiences. The Cane River Zydeco Festival returns September 4–5, while the Natchitoches Bigfoot Festival and Renaissance Comes to the Cane add two very different experiences to Saturday, September 5.

Two weeks later, one of the city’s most recognizable foods becomes the reason for a celebration. The Natchitoches Meat Pie Festival returns September 18–19, joined by Natchitoches Brew Fest on Saturday evening. September closes with Northwestern State University’s first home football game of the season on September 26.

October begins with the Natchitoches Classic Car Show on October 2–3. Dark Woods Haunted Attraction also returns on select October nights at Timber Ridge Adventure Park, with its official calendar providing the exact operating schedule.

The following weekend brings the St. Augustine Creole & Family Festival and Melrose Arts & Crafts Festival. Later in the month, Top of the Boot Music Festival shares October 17 with an NSU home football game, followed by Northwestern State’s Homecoming game on October 24.
